In Egyptian mythology, Bast (also spelt Ubasti, and Pasht) is an ancient goddess, worshipped at least since the Second Dynasty, for whom the centre of her cult was in Per-Bast (Bubastis in greek), which was named after her. Originally she was viewed as the protector goddess of Lower Egypt, and consequently depicted as a fierce lion. Indeed, her name means (female) devourer. As protectress, she was seen as defender of the pharaoh, and consequently of the chief god, Ra, who was a solar deity, gaining her the titles Lady of flame, and Eye of Ra.
Later scribes sometimes named her Bastet, a variation on Bast consisting of an additional feminine suffix to the one already present, thought to have been added to emphasise pronunciation. Since Bastet would literally mean (female) of the ointment jar, Bast gradually became thought of as the goddess of perfumes, earning the title perfumed protector. In connection with this, when Anubis became the god of embalming, Bast, as goddess of ointment, became thought of as his mother, although this association was broken in later years, when Anubis became thought of as Nephthys' son.

El Tango
Bajofondo is a South American music band consisting of eight musicians from Argentina and Uruguay. Formerly called "Bajofondo Tango Club", they changed their name to only "Bajofondo" since they felt their style had broadened to "contemporary music from the Río de la Plata" as was announced on their live concert in Berlin in April 2008. Often compared to Gotan Project, their music is a fusion of acoustic tango and electronic music, part of an evolving tango genre which is known as "Electrotango" or "Tango Fusion", which is greatly helping to bring tango back into the mainstream. The band, which prefers to refer itself as a "collective of composers, singers and artists", has a characteristic style that can be considered, besides the aforementioned mixture of tango and electronica, as an innovative form of DNB, house, chill out and trip-hop.
Fabian Perez was born on November 2, 1967 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a teenager, Fabian was fascinated with martial arts and fine arts. He dedicated himself to study both disciplines. Karate helped influence his character, giving him great discipline as well as opening him up to other forms of art. Much of what Fabian learned through his Eastern studies influenced his paintings. Fabian paints with his emotions and each painting reflects his drive and energy.

Dancing With Faeries
Every time I feel a little depressed, anxious or stressed by all those little and big problems that every day brings me, I need to escape to my wonderful world of no "worries" so this is my latest video "Dancing with Faeries" a tribute to one of my favorite Artist "Brian Froud" I hope you enjoy it! In 1978 Brian Froud and Alan Lee put together an ensemble of drawings and paintings in which the world adored: FAERIES was a great success, hitting the number four spot on the New York Times Best Seller List. Brian Froud's artistic techniques and wisdom of folklore caught the eyes of many, including Jim Henson (creator of the Muppets). In 1978 Jim Henson hired Froud to help create a unique otherworld, better known as THE WORLD OF THE DARK CRYSTAL. The film "The Dark Crystal" was a monumental collaberation of ideas, techniques, and creativity. On the set of "The Dark Crystal"- released in 1982, Brian Froud met Wendy Midener, a puppet designer (creator of the "Gelflings" and Star Wars' "Yoda"). Their son Toby starred in the Henson film, "Labyrinth"- 1986, in which Brian Froud was once again hired as the Conceptual Designer. Froud continued working with Henson on television programs such as "Jim Henson's Storyteller," as well as working on designs for other film/media projects.

Diablo Rojo
Rodrigo y Gabriela
An American reviewer called them Metal Mariachi, but first and foremost they are guitarists, pushing their plugged-in acoustic models as far as they were designed to go, and then a bit further. Believe the hype: the ferocity, intensity and control of their technique is extraordinary. Their energy, impeccable timing and the passion that comes through their music makes them the most exciting and intoxicating live acoustic performers on the planet.
Together create an electrifying sound. I just found out about them a few months ago and from the first notes I was impressed, a fresh style I am very proud that they are Mexicans; too bad that most of our National Talent has to go abroad to make it big. I hope you enjoy my version of “Diablo Rojo”l. Red Devil was inspired by a rollercoaster in Mexico City called Diablo Rojo.
Thanks
Elena

Meet Pixie
Three weeks ago my daughter called me and said, “Hello mom we have your birthday present” but it can wait wrapped in a gift box :)
This is Pixie's Story.
My son in law came home from work late at night, he could hear a kitten cry, he went home and kept on thinking about the kitten, when he went to bed he could still hear the kitten cries, he thought he needed to do something about it. So he went to check the origin of the cries and saw in the back yard of a house a the little kitten was stuck in a thorny bush hiding from two big dogs that were trying to get it :( he got her out of there and brought her home, the little thing was thirsty and very hungry, only God knows for how long the kitten was there. :(
So the next day my daughter brought her to me and it was love at first sight and the rest is history :)
Met Pixie!

Summer Solstice
People around the world have observed spiritual and religious seasonal days of celebration during the month of June. Most have been religious holy days which are linked in some way to the summer solstice. On this day, typically JUN-21, the daytime hours are at a maximum in the Northern hemisphere, and night time is at a minimum. It is officially the first day of summer. It is also referred to as Midsummer because it is roughly the middle of the growing season throughout much of Europe.

The roots of Flamenco can be traced back for centuries. Born from the expression of a persecuted people, most notably, the Gypsies of Southern Spain, its unique blend of influences and musical complexity can be attributed to the consequences of the decree made in Spain 1492 by Catholic Spanish King Ferdinand V and Queen Isabella that everyone living under their domain convert to Catholicism. This proclamation was issued under the threat of varying degrees of punishment, the most severe being the death penalty, by fire. Gypsies, Muslims, Jews and anyone living in Spain at the time was ordered to convert. It is believed that because of this decree these different ethnic groups came together to help each other, and within this melding of cultures Flamenco was born.
Flamenco, in general, consists of three artistic elements: the singing (cante), the dance (baile) and the guitar (guitarra). In addition, there are often members of a Flamenco group playing "palmas" or hand-clapping. The relationship between the artists is similar to that of Jazz-there is a basic structure that one must follow, but at its heart, it is an improvised form. The singing is the center of the Flamenco group. The dancer physically interprets the words and emotion of the singer through his or her movements, which include percussive footwork and intricate hand, arm and body movements. The guitarist provides the accompaniment to the singer and dancer, accentuating his or her vocal lines and/or melodies.
Most scholars will agree that the birthplace of Flamenco is Jerez de la Frontera, a small city in Southern Spain. However, because of the nomadic nature of the Gypsies, who moved from town to town selling their wares and doing odd jobs, Flamenco quickly gained roots in several Andalucian towns, including Sevilla and Granada. Flamenco went through many phases in the 18th and 19th centuries, including the performance of the form by non-Gypsies. Ironically, this is what gave the form its legitimacy, as it was seen in theatres and cafes. It can also be said that it became commercial, with the obvious negative implications, as well as quite successful. And although the Gypsies did not achieve respect and honor for their contribution to the art form until many years later, they have always been considered the best interpreters of the Flamenco arts.
Towards the end of the 19th century flamenco entered the commercial arena. This led to the evolution of 'professional' artists and culminated in the period of the 'cafes cantantes' (song and dance cafes) where flamenco could be heard and seen in public. This evolution also led to changes in the nature of the songs as fads developed for particular types of cante. Many of the more primitive forms languished, and some were totally lost, while other more upbeat forms achieved tremendous popularity. Growing commercialization continued until the 1950s when the influx of tourists to post-war Spain threatened to debase the art form completely. Fortunately, at this same time, several singers rediscovered the older forms and re-established interest in flamenco as an art form as well as a commercial form of music. This process depended in part on memories of older amateur singers, as there were few recordings to reference. The establishment of Flamenco Festivals during the 1960s - 1980s reinforced this revival. Although some regard these as having stifled the intimacy and spontaneity of Flamenco, they undoubtedly opened up the art to a wider public and provided opportunities for new artists

Cinco de Mayo Extravaganza
Hello everyone, I am sorry that I am late with this video but windows movie maker was not cooperating with me this past days. This is a little explanation what we Mexican really celebrate on May 5th
The fifth of May, the celebration of a Mexican victory in the war against the French in 1862. For some reason many years ago Americans thought it was our Independence Day, (by the way Mexican Independence day is celebrated on September 16.)
Cinco de Mayo widely anticipated and embraced by the gringo community as a rite of spring and an excuse to drink Margaritas in excess, Cinco de Mayo celebrations are held by Latino residents all south of California.
I edited this video with video clips of Mexican Folklore dances; some of them are from the famous “Amalia Hernandez Ballet in Mexico City. At the end of the video you will see the pictures I took on Old Town, we also visited the famous Whaley House according to the Travel Channel's "Americas Most Haunted", Thomas Whaley built Whaley House in 1856. The home is a two-story Greek revival style brick building. It cost $10,000 to build which was quite a lot of money in the 1850's. The home is a very important part of San Diego history. The home was built on the site where public hangings occured. One ghost that appears is said to be "Yankee Jim". He was hanged on the gallows of the back of a wagon in 1852. In addition to being the Whaley family home, it housed a granery, the County Courthouse, San Diego's first commercial theatre, various businesses including Thomas Whaley's own general store, a ballroom, a billiard hall, school, and polling place. Downstairs in the home you will find the Courtroom, General Store, Dining Room, Study, and Parlor.

Mad World
As some of you know I had been suffering from a severe eye infection. I have Conjunctivitis most knows as Pink Eye my doctor said that this is a strange case because most of the people get just one eye infected. He said that most likely I did it myself with some of my makeup stuff. So I remembered that the night I saw “American Idol Gives Back I cried for at least 2 hours, the next morning my eyes were swollen big time, so I used an old eye liner to try to cover up my eyes lol oh well I think that is how I caught the infection but the point is that as we know “God works mysterious ways” so I saw it as a sing for me to make a video to at least do something about it and not just cry like a baby, I hope you like it and if you can “Please Give”
I made this video without the permission of any of the artists and musicians seen in this video clips, I just hope this helps to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children around the world. If I can help save just one life it’s all worth it!
