WORKING WITH DIFFICULT PSYCHEDELIC EXPERIENCES
with Donna Dryer, M.D.
A Practical Introduction to the Principles of Psychedelic Therapy
This 20-minute educational video teaches psychedelic drug users how to minimize psychological risks and explore the therapeutic applications of psychedelics. Narrated by Donna Dryer, M.D., the video demonstrates examples of when and how to help a friend, peer, or loved one make the most out of a difficult experience with psychedelics. It elaborates on the four basic principles of psychedelic therapy:
1) Create a safe space
2) Sitting, not guiding
3) Talk through, don't talk down
4) "Difficult" is not necessarily "bad."
Working with Difficult Psychedelic Experiences was originally produced for the curriculum of a church-based harm reduction drug education program for teenagers, but is intended as a tool for anyone who has ever used psychedelics, for anyone who might in the future, for anyone who knows someone who has ever used psychedelics, or for anyone who knows someone who might in the future. In other words, you!

One Step Beyond - The Sacred Mushroom (1961)
One Step Beyond was a series show which began airing in 1959. The show primarily dealt with dramatized versions of paranormal events. This episode which is from the third season was an exception. John Newland along with doctors, and scientists took along a camera crew into the mountains of Mexico in search of the Sacred Mushroom.
In one scene, a few "brujos" (native shamen) are encountered and agree to guide the party in a mushroom ceremony. In the next scene, John Newland is back in the states, and along with Dr. Andrija Puharich, several ESP tests are conducted on John before and after injesting the mushroom they call "X".
This really is a facinating thing to watch considering this was series television (ABC) broadcast nationally in 1961... possibly one of the only times a psychedelic substance was injested and broadcasted.

Rick Doblin, president of Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, (MAPS.org) at Students for Sensible Drug Policy convention
Rick is the founder (in 1986) and president of MAPS. His dissertation (Public Policy, Harvard's Kennedy School of Government) was on "The Regulation of the Medical Use of Psychedelics and Marijuana," and his master's thesis (Harvard) focused on the attitudes and experiences of oncologists concerning the medical use of marijuana. His undergraduate thesis (New College of Florida) was a twenty-five year follow-up to the classic Good Friday Experiment, which evaluated the potential of psychedelic drugs to catalyze religious experiences. He has also conducted a thirty-four year follow-up study to Tim Leary's Concord Prison experiment.
Doblin has also studied with Stan Grof, M.D., and was in the first group to become certified as holotropic breathwork practitioners. His professional goal is to help develop legal contexts for the beneficial uses of psychedelics and marijuana, primarily as prescription medicines but also for personal growth for otherwise "healthy" people, and to also become a legally licensed psychedelic therapist. He currently resides in Boston with his wife and three young children.
