L.A., November 09, 2007 LARRY KING, HOST: Tonight, close encounters with UFOS -- is national security on the line? High ranking government and military officials from around the world have seen what you won't believe. And they risk their reputations to make the case. They're here. A historic occasion will take place in Washington on Monday. Former high level government employees, military officials and pilots from all over the world will come together. They'll discuss their own UFO sightings and encounters -- and they'll do it at the National Press Club in the nation's capital. Some of them will share their stories for the first time. This group has gathered together to call on the United States government to take an active role in investigating cases involving unidentified flying objects. That's the topic of our program here tonight. Our panel here in Los Angeles: Fife Symington, the former governor of Arizona, who in 1997 ridiculed a UFO sighting by thousands of people in the state and later admitted that he himself saw a craft. James Fox, the filmmaker who is the executive producer of the award-winning feature length documentary "Out of the Blue" -- the definitive investigation of the UFO phenomenon. Colonel Chuck Halt, United States Air Force, retired, was the deputy base commander of Bentwaters Woodbridge, a U.S. military base in Suffolk, England. In 1980, Chuck and his patrol investigated an internationally known UFO encounter in Rendlesham Forest, close to the Bentwaters Woodbridge base. Sergeant Jim Pennison, United States Air Force, retired, was a Woodbridge security supervisor at that base in 1980. He says he sat with a UFO on the ground for 45 minutes before it hovered above him and shot into the air at an unearthly speed. And in Copenhagen, Denmark, is Nick Pope. For 21 years, Nick was a government official for the British Ministry of Defence. From '91 to '94, he ran the British government's UFO project at the Ministry of Defence where he researched and investigated the UFO phenomenon for the British government. Larry King: Fife, are we now saying that the United States is taking this seriously or is this just an event? Fife Symington, Former Arizona Governor, ridiculed UFOs sighters then admitted he saw one, too: I think the United States is taking it seriously. And they need to, it's long overdue. The issues that James has so courageously tackled with his production deals with, really, the very top sightings around the world. And he's brought this group together for this press conference on Monday. I think it's a great public service that he's providing. The UFO phenomenon consists of reports of unusual flying objects that remain unidentified after scientific inquiry. It first came to public attention in the United States in 1947, when a pilot reported seeing nine unusual objects flying in formation in the state of Washington. Since 1947, the U.S. federal government, private research institutions, and individual scientists have collected data about the phenomenon. Although UFOs are not a phenomenon unique to the United States, American organizations and private individuals have taken the lead in collecting, analyzing, and publishing sighting reports. The most publicized collection agency was the U.S. Air Force through its Projects Sign (1948), Grudge (1948--1951), and Blue Book (1951--1969). The Air Force also sponsored research by the Battelle Memorial Institute in 1955 and the University of Colorado in the late 1960s. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Central Intelligence Agency, and other U.S. government agencies also looked into the phenomenon. Congressional hearings were held on the subject in 1966 and 1968. The goal of the U.S. government was to determine whether the UFO phenomenon was a threat to national security. Unable to find the threat, the government stopped collecting reports from the public in 1969. Private research institutions, including the Aerial Phenomenon Research Organization (APRO), the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP), the Mutual UFO Network, the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies, and the Fund for UFO Research, have collected and analyzed reports since 1952. Even the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) conducted a study in 1971. Nearly all research efforts have determined that a small but significant number of sightings remain "unidentified" after scientific investigation. This is especially true with reports made by the most articulate witnesses and containing the most data. Although the primary objective of private UFO researchers was to collect and analyze reports, they also sought to convince the public and the scientific community of the legitimacy of the subject. Their task was made all the more difficult by ridicule, caused in part by the perceived unlikelihood of the phenomenon's extraterrestrial origin, and in part by publicity hungry charlatans and self-promoters ("contactees") who, beginning in the 1950s, made fictitious claims about meeting "space brothers" and traveling to distant planets, or hinted darkly about secret government conspiracies with aliens. In addition to the problem of ridicule, serious researchers found it difficult, although not impossible, to gather "hard" evidence of the unconventional nature of the phenomenon. They amassed photos, films, videotapes, radar tracings, and great numbers of multiple witness reports of objects on or near the ground. They reported studies of UFO effects on electrical and mechanical devices, animals, and humans. They studied soil samples purportedly altered by landed UFOs. In spite of all this, they were unable to present artifacts of a UFO—the hard evidence that most scientists demanded.

Un grupo de OVNIs - Perú - UFOs (text: english y deutsch) -- ENGLISH: -- On the 20th May 2007 the local TV station ATV Canal9, showed a large group of UFOs that had appeared over Lima, Peru at about 12 o'clock, local time. Most of the pictures were taken during the outdoor filming of a music video when the cameraman happened to turn his camera to the sky. Later on some of the photos were darkened to facilitate better visibility. ATV maintains that these pictures were the first of its kind in Peru. One thing is certain, such a huge multitude of UFOs had never been seen anywhere in the world. These OVNI s (Spanish word for UFOs) were visible over Peru's capital city for 30 minutes. All UFOs visible over the Old Town of Lima were moving rather fast in various directions, going up and coming down with incredible speed, as UFOs are want to do. The people on the street are very excited and are shouting: Look, look, what is that? The inserted photos from Mexico were shown on Mexican TV Stations during the years 1994-95. They had been made available by the Peruvian air force FAP, represented in the interview for this TV clip of ATV, Lima, by Cmdte. Julio Chamorro. He declares that the air force has no plausible explanation for this abnormal phenomenon, not visible on radar screens, but that it certainly needed to be investigated as air flights in general could be endangered. He is cautious when it comes to the topic of "Extraterrestrials", which is an awkward one, and in this respect no comment is made. The final comment by ATV is a question often heard: Are we alone in the Universe? -- DEUTSCH: -- Am 20. Die Menschen auf der Strasse sind sehr aufgeregt und rufen durcheinander: Sieh, schau, was ist das ...? Die eingeblendeten Aufnahmen aus Mexiko stammen von mexikanischen TV-Stationen aus den Jahren 1994 und 1995. Sie wurden von der Peruanischen Luftwaffe FAP, vertreten im Interview durch Cmdte. Julio Chamorro für diesen TV-Beitrag von ATV, Lima, zur Verfügung gestellt. Der Cmdte. bemerkt, daß die Luftwaffe keine geeignete Erklärung für dieses anomale und nicht kontrollierte Phänomen habe, daß es aber in jedem Fall aufgeklärt werden sollte, weil die Luftfahrt allgemein gefährdet sein könne.
