Unfortunately, because there is a "baby" in the nest and a lot of road traffic, including a whole lot of ATVs going up and down the road, the adult was being very cautious and keeping a low profile. I saw the baby briefly several times but not when I had the camera ready to shoot.

Meet the Ospreys, April 5, 2008
The first weekend in April and two of three nests are occupied and a third is being scoped out. There are two new nests which I hadn't followed last year (in this video) and those are occupied. Both had one mate on the nest and I could hear the other calling at the second nest.
I think both the ones on the nests were females. The male has a fairly prominent brown "ascot" on it's upper chest.
The third nest, the one which I have followed the last couple of years, didn't have a mate on the nest but some people have seen one on a tree near the nest.
There are two other nests. One I showed last year has a very deep bowl and while it didn't appear occupied, even last year when it was, it was difficult to see anything but the head of one of the parents. The last is so close to the road and either the box was only recently erected (I only spotted it at the end of last season) or no mating pairs have been interested in it. There is very little nesting material in the nest.

The Ospreys, June 8, 2007
...or, rather, one Osprey. I don't know if this is one of the adults or a "baby". I THINK it is one of the adults. There were no signs of any babies but they are either too little to be seen of not born yet.
I was hoping to get more of the Osprey calling but I managed to get one brief call (at about 1:10 before the end of the video).

Meet the Ospreys! The Nest (May 6, 2007)
I discovered this Osprey nest last summer, located at a lock on the Rideau Canal (I won't say which one). I will be visiting it fairly regularly over the summer to keep you updated on the progress of any young.

Meet the Ospreys, July 15, 2007
Another visit to the nest yielded a surprise. One of the adults was perched nearby, so we get a really good look and hear some vocalizating. A visit to another nest which appeared to be empty a few weeks ago shows it is active. Both adults visibe, with one perched outside the nest. Someone appears to have added perches at both nests. The first, to keep them off the hydro poles, presumeably and the second, neatly tucked under the nest. The second is so far off the road on private property that I had to resort to my handy "binocular/telephoto lens" technique. It is shaky but serves the purpose.

Motorcycle Diary: Boca Grande, Florida 30 March 08
Took a little jaunt down to Boca Grande, FL this morning on the motorcycles. Hope you enjoy some of the scenery. Forgot to mention in the video that one of the reasons why Boca Grande is so beautiful is because they have instilled building ordinances there which don't allow for anything higher than two stories to be built. It keeps the pristine lushness of the island intact. No highrises ruining the beauty of it.
