On my way back from my daughters softball tourney this weekend I stopped off a few miles from my house and was treated to a rare sight.

Here is my Video clip of Big N'Lil receiving their dignified names, by voters of the John Hancock Wildlife community contest. It was a neat contest, and what honorable and majestic names Big N'Lil received! Many changes have taken place this year, and I was seriously disappointed due to lack of funding...but I found some bits n' pieces to whom was in the community looking as if they will be *starting up* with new nests this year. We shall see. I was glad to be one to have been able to follow this marvelous experience last year. ow Named Victoria & Sidney...Nests grow empty by the day as eaglets search for food. Soon they will leave. 7/27/06.

if you look very careful you will see the thrush sat in its nest,it had four baby birds that hatched.......nature is great great.....hope it comes back again this year to lay more eggs

These were from their first swim in life this morning. The slow-pokes and they finally managed to find thier way back to mom.

The first weekend in April and two of three nests are occupied and a third is being scoped out. There are two new nests which I hadn't followed last year (in this video) and those are occupied. Both had one mate on the nest and I could hear the other calling at the second nest. I think both the ones on the nests were females. The male has a fairly prominent brown "ascot" on it's upper chest. The third nest, the one which I have followed the last couple of years, didn't have a mate on the nest but some people have seen one on a tree near the nest. There are two other nests. One I showed last year has a very deep bowl and while it didn't appear occupied, even last year when it was, it was difficult to see anything but the head of one of the parents. The last is so close to the road and either the box was only recently erected (I only spotted it at the end of last season) or no mating pairs have been interested in it. There is very little nesting material in the nest.

July 30, 2007: Several ravens attack the nest! Most of the action is off-screen, but we can hear the ravens' raucus "rronks" and Mom's calls. According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology: The Common Raven is the largest of the songbirds and one of the most widespread species in the world. Size: 56-69 cm (22-27 in); Wingspan: 116-118 cm (46-46 in); Weight: 689-1625 g (24.32-57.36 ounces). Toward the end of the video, a raven lands on the branch holding the wide angle camera. Then he or she jumps on another branch, seems to slip, and flies off. Around 3:31 in the video, you'll hear the raven make a "turkey gobble" sound.

McMurphy thinks he can get out of doing work while in prison by pretending to be mad. His plan backfires when he is sent to a mental asylum. He tries to liven the place up a bit by playing card games and basketball with his fellow inmates, but the head nurse is after him at every turn.
