I am proud to announce the first recoring of Maria Linnemann's "SOLEDAD"! Maria composed this music this year and decided to dedicate it to me. It's a great honor! When I asked her what's behind the piece she told me: "It was inspired by a poem written by a poet of the '27 generation', Emilio Prados. Many poets fled Spain at the time of the civil war, and found a new home in S. America or Mexico. But they homesick, and their poems reflect their sadness. Prados' poem is called 'Cancion', and begins: Puente de mi soledad: con las aguas di mi muerte tus ojos se calmaran....'. With affection! Peo

Arroyos de la Alhambra is written by Angel Barrios. Barrios was born in Grenada in 1882, the son of a flamenco guitarist. Ángel Barrios (as he is known) studied classical guitar and composition in his native city, but concentrated on a career as a professional guitar. He later studied in Paris, and though he was to be a touring artist, unlike many other Spaniards, he did remain a national musician. He founded the Trio Iberia in 1900 for which he made many arrangements, and they enjoyed a considerable vogue in Europe. He was quite a productive composer in his younger years, but the Spanish Civil War had a considerable affect on him, and he wrote little in later life. His catalogue of works includes opera, zarzuelas, a number of orchestral scores and solo works for piano and guitar. They are all written in a style influenced by the Romantic era, and relied heavily on a populist Spanish folk influence. He died 1964. I hope you like it... I do :-)

I am trying to get my left arm to work again. This is a good exercise! LOL I. Albeniz (1860-1909) was a piano virtuoso. We guitarists like to transcribe his music to the guitar since the spirit in it is very ideomatic for the guitar. Albeniz is quoted to once have said he prefered some of his pieces on the guitar. Rubber Soul is the sixth album by The Beatles, first released in December 1965. The album was recorded in just over four weeks to make the Christmas market. It was a major artistic achievement for the band, attaining widespread critical and commercial success, with reviewers taking note of The Beatles' developing musical vision. In 2003, the album was ranked number 5 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The Beatles left a hole for the instrumental break when they recorded this. Producer George Martin filled it in the next morning by playing a piano solo and speeding up the tape to make it sound like a harpsichord. Lennon had asked him to fill it with something "baroque." There is controversy over how involved McCartney was in writing this. Lennon claimed in later interviews that he wrote the whole thing, while McCartney claimed it was an equal collaboration. This is an autobiographical song about John Lennon's life. He wrote most of the lyrics after being asked why a book he wrote, In His Own Write, revealed more about him than his songs did. The lyrics about friends refer to Stu Sutcliffe, an early Beatle and great friend of John's who died in 1962, and another friend named Pete Shotton.
