If you have ever thought that you'd like to add a cat to your brood, there are some wonderful cats and kittens that would love be yours. Tiger is a petite Torbie girl with lemon shaped golden eyes. She has pretty shades of orange speckled into her Tabby like coat and best of all is she is very friendly and people oriented. Sweet Priscilla is a darker colored Tortoiseshell and looks like she has chocolate chips sprinkled in her coat. She is a very friendly cat too just like Tiger but sadly these two have both been passed over. Some great new cats this week... the super size Clouseau is a big Tuxedo boy; Licorice is a very loving male black cat that was clearly owned by someone as all he wants to do is be with you and rub your hand. He is an extra friendly boy that must have a sad story to have ended up someplace other than his home as you can tell he was dearly loved. Pepper has gorgeous gold eyes and a white coat with pretty brown markings on his head and back. They gray and white Tuxedo is so loving he laid his head in the volunteers head as she tried to take his photo. If it is a kitten you want, there are some darling baby Tabby babies and 2 wee black kittens just waiting for the perfect home. Be sure to come get your pick of the litter! There were a few adoptions of pups but almost nothing for adults. How could anyone pass up Daisy? She is a darling little Rat Terrier with a face that will melt your heart. She is young but seems to have had some training along the way. Brandy is a Plott Hound likely that was meant for hunting. She probably liked people more than hunting which was not good for her so now she is rewarded with looking for a new home. She is a happy go lucky girl that hopes not to be passed over for smaller dogs again. Tyler is a compact lil guy that looks like a shrunken Shepherd mix with the most soulful eyes. Sam and Zeke are both Catahoula mixes and are very loving and nice dogs. Houlas are the state dog of Louisiana and are known for their intelligence and athletic ability. EmmyLou is a Border Terrier mix but and would make a great dog for a family or single that would like a small and loving companion. Barney is a "so ugly I'm cute" little black dog with brown around his neck. He is a definite Heinz 57 but I think he got the best of everything. He has heart and soul and little mixed breeds make the best and most loving and loyal companions. Please give each of these hold overs another look and some hope. New dogs include 2 small (what we believe to be) Affenpincher Yorkie mixes. They are likely brothers and have unique wirey fur that sticks up all around their faces. Jet is an owner surrender with beautiful brown eyes just asking for a chance to come home with you. Little Pearl looks like she must have lost her way and no one bothered to claim her. She is not a youngster but sweet and seemingly well cared for but sad not to be home. Little Lexis a a small Spaniel mix that cocked her head at the camera in question... what a sweet little girl. Patti and Missy are 2 sisters that were sadly dumped in the outside holding pen. They are Cattle Dog / Terrier mixes and are a great size with personalities that will win you over as soon as you meet them. The animals keep coming in and we continue to help. Roicy Duhon Animal Control is located in Lafayette, Louisiana. This video contains the photos of the animals available for adoption as of October 2, 2007. There time is limited, so please do what you can now to help. There are many adorable kittens in all colors. There are two sweet young cats, Monkey and Blue, who were owner surrendered together. Their only crime was that they were too active, and now they find themselves behind bars. As usual, the black Labs are present, this time 4 of them. Blackie and his two sons, Noah and Jonah, were surrendered. And Seth was probably found as a stray, but nobody has come for him. These sweet, shiny black boys will have a tough time finding a home, as black Labs and their mixes are just about the most common site on death row and the toughest to get out. So, with Dubois who was held over, that makes 5 of them. The dog that is so in demand in the east, is thrown away like yesterday's newspaper here in the south. It is heartbreaking, and as anybody who has ever loved a Lab knows, a crime, as there is no better family pet around. It seems that a direct result of getting the word out locally by TV, flyers and email, there is a huge jump in intake numbers. This animal control facitily has already taken in over 8,000 animals, some of those wildlife, but in any event, almost 1000 animals more than ALL of last year. Perhaps the staff is not being brutally honest with these people, or perhaps they don't want to know. Some come in with dog houses, beds, toys, even clothes. These people are living on Fantasy Island, as the fact of the matter is that a very large percentage of the animals entering this facility will die. This was not the case for the two years after Katrina, because everyone wanted to save Katrina animals and their offspring, but it is no longer the case anymore. The overpopulation problem here is astounding. The director made the decision about 1.5 years ago to give those who make it to adoption more time, and the volunteers agree with this as it is impossible to get anybody out in a very few days, especially now. So, these adoption row residents have a chance to be held over, sometimes several times. But many of the animals won't ever have that chance. They are the faces that we will never see....the bios you will never read. And when one of these on adoption row goes to a home quickly, someone else from stray hold gets to go to adoption row. And, as is true in many shelters throughout south Louisiana, they are animals who would have been adopted, if there was space and time. I pray that one day the people in south Louisiana "get it".

On the cat side, a very special plea for Pricilla, a gorgeous Tortie with a sleek black coat and chocolate spots. She loves people and for some reason Torties do not seem to get adopted easily but I don't understsand why. She is such a good girl waits patiently and is so loving and hopeful but she has been continues to be overlooked. Several very nice adults that have been held over, 4 held over kittens including 2 Tabbys and 2 black kittens. There are 4 new owner surrendered Siamese kittens that are darling with pretty blue eyes. On the dog side, a special plea for Tyler, a darling little Terrier mix that is a little shy but sweet as can be. There are donations of $200 to the 501(c)3 that will rescue him. McDoogle is a character and a great dog that we think is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. New dogs include a super super sweet JRT; a pair of owner surrendered Lab babies (one Yellow one Black); a happy Aussie girl; a tan Terrier mix; Basset mix, and black wirehaired Terrier mix. Lastly, there is Max, a Shep mix adopted as a puppy and now an adolescent. Maybe he got too big for his family? Maybe they just didn't care. Sadly for him, he was dumped right before Thanksgiving. On October 17, 2007, we set up Rachael and Becky in the Lafayette, Louisiana Petsmart Luv-A-Pet Center. Becky has since been adopted. Rachael is still looking for her furr-ever home. Rachael is the beautiful Tabby & White kitten.

Koji is a very sweet and loving dog. He absolutely adores his foster family. We rescued him from certain death at Lafayette Animal Control. He was heartworm positive when we got him. He has been through heartworm treatments, and has been on heartworm prevention ever since he finished treatment. We got him neutered and fully vetted. He is still looking for a forever home. Koji is a very smart dog. He will dance on command. He also knows come and sit and leave it. He is a great house dog. He is wonderful with kids, dogs, and even cats!
