Das Jahr 53 vor der Hijra (v.H.) war fr Mekka ein bedeutsames Jahr: Da war zunchst der versuchte Angriff des Jemen, das damals zum Herrschaftsgebiet des christlichen Abessiniens gehrte. Dem abessinischen Statthalter Abraha ging es um nichts Geringeres als um die Zerstrung der Kaba, des hchsten Heiligtums der Araber. Das zweite Ereignis, das bis heute von prgender Bedeutung fr die Stadt geblieben ist, war die Wiederentdeckung der Quelle von Zamzam, die nach einem lange zurckliegenden Krieg verschttet und seither beinahe vergessen worden war. Der Brunnen, der bis heute die gesamte Stadt und ihre Millionen Pilger mit reichlich Wasser versorgt, ist im bildlichen Sinne seither die Lebensader der von lebensfeindlicher Wste umgebenen Stadt. Das Jahr des Elefanten In diesem Jahr des Elefanten, so benannt nach dem Heer des Abraha, in dem Elefanten eingesetzt wurden, am 9. des Monats Rabi Awwal, kam Muhammad bin (Sohn des) Abdullah bin Abd al-Muttalib zur Welt. Nach christlicher Zeitrechnung war es im April des Jahres 571. Nicht nur vor dem Hintergrund der genannten Ereignisse war die Geburt Muhammads nur fr seine Familie ein Ereignis von Bedeutung, auch wenn der Volksglaube von einer Vielzahl wundersamer Erscheinungen berichtet. Mekka war eine bedeutende Handelsstadt. Ihre Gesellschaft bestand aus verschiedenen Stammesverbnden. Muhammads Grovater Abd al-Muttalib war ein angesehener Mann seines Stammes und einer der politischen Oberhupter der Stadt. Sein Vater Abdullah starb sehr jung, noch vor der Geburt seines Sohnes. Auch seine Mutter Amina erlebte Muhammad nicht mehr lange. Sie verstarb, als er sechs Jahre alt war. Muhammad war das einzige Kind von Abdullah und Amina. In Mekka war es Brauch, dass die Familien, die es sich leisten konnten, ihre Shne bald nach der Geburt zu Milchmttern aufs Land schickten, um dort in gesunder Umgebung aufzuwachsen. Fr die Milchmtter war die Aufnahme der Kinder vor allem eine Erwerbsquelle. Daher waren bei ihnen jene Kinder am begehrtesten, die besonders reiche Eltern hatten. So war es auch bei Halima aus dem Stamm der Banu Sad. Die anderen Frauen waren ihr jedoch zuvorgekommen, und es war nur noch das Waisenkind des Abdullah brig geblieben. Sie nahm ihn schlielich nur an, um nicht mit leeren Hnden zurckzukehren. Das war in den ersten Wochen seines Lebens. Vier Jahre in der Obhut von Halima Aus den anschlieenden vier Jahren in Banu Sad kennt die berlieferung sehr viele wundersame Geschichten, die vom ungewhnlichen Milchreichtum der Halima ber reichhaltige Tierzuchtertrge bis zur Begegnung mit einem Engel, der Muhammads Brust ffnete und sein Herz reinwusch. Jedenfalls muss sein Aufenthalt bei der Familie fr die Eltern und die Kinder eine segenreiche Zeit gewesen sein, ganz anders als Halima zunchst befrchtet hatte, denn nach den blichen zwei Jahren bat sie seine Mutter so lange, ihn noch lnger bei ihr zu lassen, bis sie zustimmte. Nach seiner Rckkehr mit vier Jahren war Muhammad zunchst bei seiner Mutter. Er verbrachte fast zwei Jahre bei ihr und im Umfeld der Grofamilie seines Grovaters. Einmal nahm ihn seine Mutter mit auf eine Reise nach Yathrib, dem spteren Medina, wo sie ihre Familie und das Grab ihres Mannes besuchte. Auf der Rckreise verstarb sie und ihre Sklavin Baraka, die mitgereist war, brachte ihn nach Mekka zurck. Damals war er sechs Jahre alt. Danach nahm ihn sein Grovater Abd al-Muttalib zu sich. Nach dessen Tod zwei Jahre spter nahm ihn sein Onkel Abu Talib in seine Familie auf. Hier sollte er bis zu seiner Hochzeit bleiben. Nach den verschiedenen berlieferungen ber diese Zeit zu urteilen, muss Muhammad trotz des frhen Todes seiner Eltern eine glckliche Kindheit gehabt haben. We are your protecting friends in the life of the world and in the Hereafter. "There you will have (all) that your souls desire, and there you will have (all) for which you pray. A gift of welcome from the Forgiving, the Merciful." [Al-Qur'an 41:30-32] Those who believe and do good works and believe in that which is revealed unto Muhammad - and it is the truth from your Lord - He rids them of their ill-deeds and improves their condition. That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood and because those who believe follow the truth from their Lord.
