THE ARTIST IN A FEW WORDS: Let me introduce myself: I am Francine Lusamba Mpinda – also known as the author and composer FLM – originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and now living in Woluwe-St-Pierre (Belgium). Gospel gave me my first taste of music and sparked the discovery of a passion which I have channelled into the production of my first solo album ‘Just FLM’. My first ambitious projects – with the ‘Drôles de Dames’ trio and ‘Alliance –M’ group, a duo I formed with my brother in 2000, are now behind me but I have retained the ongoing desire to compose and write little poems which then become songs. Dancing and singing with a hint of ragga, R&B and soul are what I do best. I have never strayed far from what is closest to my heart: the music. My studies in fashion and business management and a stint as an independent aesthetician never replaced my desire to write; a love of words which touch others and dances which just make you want to join in. My first album ‘Just FLM’ is full and bursting with life. The first clip (‘Catastrophe sur terre’ or Catastrophe on Earth) was filmed in Belgium. “I am no climate expert but I feel that everyone should do what they can to draw attention to this issue. In my case, I’d like to make people aware of global warming and its consequences through music”. This is why my music contains text on global warming (‘Catastrophe sur terre’). My first solo album reflects my passion for music with hints of ragga, R&B and soul. This is what I feel I do best. “I started to write the text for the 14 songs on my first album just over a year ago”. I called it ‘Just FLM’ because people will hear that these are my own stories, things I have experienced and continue to experience. The album is an intimate reflection of my life, including true stories and the joys and difficulties I have encountered and that I wish to share with others through singing and dancing. I hope that everyone can identify with a small part of this album. I’d like everyone to share part of my dream with me”. My album ‘Just FLM’ migrates from pure ragga to an unusual and sophisticated version of R&B in ‘Rock & Roll’. The song was composed with the aim of re-awakening this dated style of music and encouraging people to explore its respectable past. ‘FLM Ragga’ adopts the same approach with a hint of my flavour. ‘Sons’ (sounds) is an invitation to join me on stage, to resonate with me, because movement and the desire to move together in unison dominate. ‘Just FLM’ is a reflection of my life and my emotions. No false modesty, no exaggerations. Just the truth. I take you down the path of ‘La Paix’ (peace) where I ask the parents of the world not to fight in front of their children. Ladies, I share with you my wanting to be loved and desired in ‘Aimez-moi pour que j’existe’ (love me so that I exist). I also wanted to pay homage to the painters of the world. “I have dabbled in oil painting and wanted to write a song about artists and painters in particular. Their works are impressive. How they hold the brush and literally take the colours. It’s beautiful, I didn’t want to keep that to myself”. Slam, Soul, Ragga and R&B on every level, it’s a love of music. please excuse the mess! This was our attempt (lots of hair) at a homemade haircut and now I understand why people do not do it at home!! Deja doing this is normal, LOL. This is her favorite thing to do especially after a bath (which she got both today, whew!) Our little rat, for now. She can really be a diva I promise! lol :))) Hope this was as fun for yall as it was for us watching her run around like a crazy dog!
