The husband can be Lord Barnard, Barnet, Barnabas, Arnold, Allen, Daniel and so on. I first heard this song as Matty Groves, sung by Joan Baez. Fairport Convention also recorded it, and Planxty do an excellent version.

I first heard this song sung by Joan Baez (1962).
