Mountaintop removal (MTR) is a plague in the Appalachians right now. MTR is blasting mountaintops, destroying the environment, wildlife, communities, and raping the land and people. Most people only know Jack from the folk tale of Jack and the Bean Stalk. This is a little known oral tradition story of a time when an American Jack tricks Death into climbing into a bag that he can't get out of. This story has a poignant meaning that probably was shared at times of loss. I heard this story from Richard Chase somewhere around midsummer of 1981. Thank you Richard for you gifts of tales.

My first television appearance. Can you figure out which one is me? People who know me personally know that I was born and raised near the tri-state border of West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio. Some refer to the area as the gateway to the Appalachian Smoky Mountains. It's a beautiful area, however, many look down on our culture and residents because we are poor. One of the most important lessons that I have learned thus far in my 48 years, is that money does not make someone a better person. A human beings character is not measured in dollars nor pounds nor the kind of car they drive, the dwelling that is their home. True human character and values such as integrity, honor, respect, good will, honesty and family values are the true wealth that measures a person. I am proud of my past, present and future and I hope that the lessons I have learned in life inspire others to be the best person that they can be. Some people refer to my life story as a rags to riches back to rags story... you can be the judge if you wish. Thank you for visiting my channel.
